We booked a mini cruise on the MSC Lirica for the end of January. Although the ship is the oldest in the MSC fleet, the ship class was new to me. The departure port was also new to me and it was our first time flying with KLM. In the winter, both the cruise and the flights were really cheap.
Varasimme tammikuun lopulle miniristeilyn MSC Liricalle. Vaikka alus on vanhimmasta päästä MSC:n laivastoa, alusluokka oli minulle uusi. Myöskin lähtösatama oli uusi tuttavuus ja ensimmäistä kertaa lensimme KLM:llä. Talvella niin risteilyn kuin lennotkin sai todella edulliseen hintaan.
The first leg was a flight from Helsinki to Amsterdam and a transfer to Florence. Everything worked great with KLM and the service and food were excellent. The outward journey schedule was quite tight and after the flights we had to take a tram to Florence and then transfer to a train and Livorno. In Livorno we took a taxi to the port. The whole trip went great and all transportation was on schedule. Eight hours after leaving Helsinki we were already at the terminal checking in for the ship. Our junior had a great time on the way to the ship.
Ensimmäinen osuus oli lento Helsingistä Amsterdamiin ja siellä vaihto Florencen lennolle. KLM:llä kaikki toimi hienosti ja palvelu ja tarjoilut oli erinomaiset. Menomatkan aikataulu oli melko tiukka ja lentojen jälkeen oli vuorossa raitiovaunulla matka Firenceen ja sieltä vaihto junaan ja Livornoon. Livornossa taksilla satamaan. Koko matka sujui loistavasti ja kaikki kulkuvälineet oli hyvin aikataulussaan. Kahdeksan tuntia Helsingistä lähdön jälkeen olimmekin jo terminaalissa kirjautumassa sisään laivalle. Meidän juniori viihtyi hyvin matkalla laivalle.
There were few passengers on the ship from Livorno, so check-in was completed in about five minutes and after a few minutes we took a bus to the ship and there we first visited the cabin and then headed to the deck to photograph the ships in the harbor. There, the ex. Finlandia, now Moby Dada, was moored waiting to be scrapped.
Livornosta tuli vähän matkustajia laivalle, joten check-in oli suoritettu noin viidessä minuutissa ja muutaman minuutin jälkeen siirryimme bussilla laivalle ja siellä ensimmäisenä kävimme tutustumassa hyttiin ja sen jälkeen suuntasimem kannelle kuvaamaan satamassa olevia laivoja. Siellä oli makuutettuna ex. Finlandia nykyisin Moby Dada odottamassa romuttamolle lähtöä.
Next was the traditional buffet lunch and getting to know the ship. Just before departure, there was an emergency drill. After that, more exploring the bars and dinner in one of the ship’s main restaurants. Good food was available every night there, but apparently the ship was used for staff training. There, the staff’s activities in the main restaurant were a bit variable.
Seuraavaksi olikin vuorossa perinteiseen tapaan Buffet lounas ja laivaan tutustuminen. Hetki ennen lähtöä oli vuorossa hätätila harjoitus. Sen jälkeen lisää tutustumista baareihin ja päivälliselle toiseen laivan pääravintoloista. Hyvää ruokaa tarjolla joka ilta siellä, mutta ilmeisesti laivaa käytettiin henkilökunnan koulutukseen. Siellä oli henkilökunnan toiminta vähän vaihtelevaa pääravintolassa.
After a rather intense day, sleep came early, so I went to bed in the cabin. The next morning it was time for a “long” trip to Marseille. Although this time the weather was even good enough that we left the ship. After a short walk, we returned to the ship and it was time to explore the jacuzzis and spa. In Marseille, there were again many ships to photograph in the harbor area.
Melko intensiivisen päivän jälkeen uni tuli jo aikaisin, joten hyttiin nukkumaan. Seuraavana aamuna olikin vuorossa “pitkästä” aikaa Marseille. Tosin tällä kertaa jopa sää oli niin hyvä, että poistuimme laivasta. Pienen kävelyreissun jälkeen palasimme takaisin laivalle ja oli aika tutustua porealtaisiin ja spahan. Marseillessa oli jälleen monta laivaa kuvattavana satama-alueella.
In the evening we went shopping in the ship’s stores and it wasn’t such a big surprise that we ended up with some big purchases from the MSC Logoshop. After dinner it was time to explore the ship’s entertainment offerings.
Illalla oli shoppailla laivan myymälöissä ja ei niin iso yllätys, että MSC Logoshopista tuli mukaan isot ostokset. Päivällisen jälkeen oli aika tutustua laivan viihdetarjontaan.
On the third day of the trip, it was Palma de Mallorca. We first ate breakfast outside, really good omelettes were being cooked in the kitchen. Next, we admired the coast and went to eat brunch in the main restaurant. This was a different main restaurant than our dinner restaurant. After that, it was time to go on deck. In addition to the coast, there were a lot of local car ferries to photograph.
Matkan kolmantena päivänä oli vuorossa Palma de Mallorca.Aamiaisen söimme ensin ulkona, todella hyvät munakkaat paistoivat keittiössä. Seuraavksi ihailimme rannikkoa ja kävimme syömässä brunssin pääravintolassa. Tämä oli eri pääravintola kuin meidän illallisravintola. Sen jälkeen olikin aika mennä kannelle. Rannikon lisäksi oli kuvattavana paljon paikallisia autolauttoja.
Next it was time to explore Palma. The city was pleasantly quiet outside of the season. The weather was good after the morning rains. After a few kilometers of walking we returned to the ship. Nice city.
Seuraavaksi oli aika lähteä tutustumaan Palmaan. Sesongin ulkopuolella kaupunki oli viihtyisän rauhallinen. Sää oli aamun sateiden jälkeen hyvä. Muutaman kilometrin kävelyn jälkeen palasimme takaisin laivalle. Kiva kaupunki.
After Palma, there were celebrations like the last night. But first, lunch at the Buffett and dinner in the main restaurant. In the evening, we sat in the Pub and Piano Bar, both great places. The next morning, we arrived in Valencia and the cruise ended.
Palman jälkeen olikin juhlia kuin viimeistä iltaa. Mutta ensin lounaalle Buffettiin ja päivällinen pääravintolassa. Illalla tuli istuttua Pubissa ja Piano baarissa upeita paikkoja molemmat. Seuraavana aamuna on saapuminen Valenciaan ja risteilyn loppu.
Disembarking the ship didn’t go quite smoothly. We didn’t get the address labels for our luggage in the evening. So the bags arrived at the terminal in random order. We weren’t the only ones, there were a lot of people looking for their bags. We had plenty of time before our flight, so we walked around Valencia before taking the metro to the airport.
Laivasta poistuminen ei sujunut aivan mallikelpoisesti. Me emme saaneet illalla matkalaukkujen osoitelappuja. JOten laukut tuli satunnaisessa järjestyksessä terminaaliin. Emme suinkaan olleet ainoita vaan siellä todella monet etsivät laukkujaan. Meillä oli hyvin aikaa ennen lentoa joten kävelimme Valenciassa ennen metrolla siirtymistä lentoasemalle.
The last flight was with KLM from Valencia via Amsterdam to Helsinki. Good service again on the flights and the plane change went smoothly in Amsterdam. Although the plane on the last leg was probably on the evening side of its career, there we managed to fix one table so that it could be closed and a little bit of everything else. But all in all, we will definitely fly with KLM again.
Viimeisenä oli lennot KLM:llä Valenciasta Amsterdamin kautta Helsinkiin. Hyvä palvelu jälleen lennoilla ja koneen vaihto sujui sujuvasti Amsterdamissa. Tosin viimeisen osuuden kone oliehkä uransa ehtoo puolelta siellä pääsimme korjaamaan yhden pöydän että sai sen suljettua ja vähän kaikkea muuta kivaa. Mutta kaikkinensa KLM:llä tulee lennettyä ehdottomasti toistekin.
