We finally went to see the renovations made at the Baltic Princess dock. A 23-hour cruise from Turku to Stockholm and back. The advantage of a Wednesday cruise is that in low season you can get on the ship directly without waiting at the terminal. The first table at the Buffet was already at 18:45, the ship leaves at 20:10. One of the good things about the port of Turku is the possibility of charging your car during the trip.
Kävimme viimeinkin tutustumassa Baltic Princessin telakoinnissa tehtyihin uudistuksiin. 23-tunnin risteily Turusta Tukholmaan ja takaisin. Keskiviikko risteilyn etuna on matalasesongilla pääsy laivaan suoraan ilman odottelua terminaalissa. Ensimmäinen kattaus Buffetissa oli jo 18:45, laiva lähtee kello 20:10. Turun sataman hyviä puolia on mahdollisuus saada auto lataukseen matkan ajaksi.
The transition to the cabin was smooth. We had a four-person outside cabin on the 5th deck. The cabin was clean and everything worked, but the cabins really need updating. The overall look is starting to look quite tired after 18 years. The biggest difference to the competitors is in the cabins, most of which are in their original condition.
Viking Glory and its tanker arrived in port a little later. The Baltic Princess was still having its outer decks painted.
Hyttiin siirtyminen onnistui sujuvasti. Hyttinä meillä oli 5. kannen neljän hengen ulkohytti. Hytti oli siisti ja kaikki toimi, mutta hytit kaipaisivat todellakin päivitystä. Yleisilme alkaa 18 vuoden jälkeen olemaan melko väsynyt. Suurin ero kilpailijoihin tuleekin juuri hyteissä joista suurin osa on melko alkuperäisessä asussaan.
Viking Glory ja sen tankkausalus saapuivat hieman myöhemmin satamaan. Baltic Princessillä ulkokansien maalaus oli edelleen menossa.
After departure, it was time for dinner at the Grande Buffet restaurant. This time, you could choose your own table in the restaurant. The food was good, especially the appetizers. Although the selection of warm meat dishes was a bit limited. The dinner went well, admiring the scenery of the Turku archipelago. After dinner, it was time to explore the renovated Tax Free Superstore. The store had a much brighter look than before. There were also self-service checkouts.
Lähdön jälkeen oli vuorossa päivällinen Grande Buffet ravintolassa. Tällä kertaa ravintolassa oli vapaasti pöydät valittavissa. Ruoka oli hyvää , varsinkin alkupalat. Tosin lämpimissä liharuuissa valikoima oli vähän suppea. Päivällinen sujui hyvin Turun saariston maisemia ihaillen. Päivällisen jälkeen olikin aika tutustua uudistettuun Tax Free Superstoreen. Myymälä oli saanut huomattavasti aiempaa valoisamman ilmeen. Sinne oli tullut myös itsepalvelukassat.
In the evening we sat on the sun deck and at the disco, which wasn’t open yet. After that we headed to a nightclub, where there was a party band and a star artist.
Illasta istuskeltiin vielä aurinkokannella ja discossa, joka ei ollut vielä avoinna. Sen jälkeen suuntasimme yökerhoon, jossa oli tarjolla bilebändi ja tähtiartisti.
After a good night’s sleep, it was time to look at the Stockholm archipelago and head for breakfast at the completely newly built Grill House restaurant. The surfaces of the restaurant and nearby corridors have been completely renovated and are really stylish. Then for breakfast, there was a really good and tasty selection of cold and warm dishes. You could order an omelet from the waiter. For dessert, there was the opportunity to fry waffles. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had on a ship.
Hyvin nukutun yön jälkeen oli aika katsella Tukholman saaristoa ja suunnata aamiaiselle täysin uusiksi rakennettuun Grill House ravintolaan. Ravintolan ja läheisten käytävien pinnat on täysin uusittu ja todella tyylikkäät. Sitten aamiaiseen, tarjolla oli todella hyvä ja maukas valikoima kylmiä ja lämpimiä ruokia. Munakkaan sai tilattua tarjoilijalta. Jälkiruuaksi oli mahdollisuus paistaa vohveleita. Yksi parhaista aamiaisista mitä olen laivalla syönyt.
After breakfast, there was time to wander through the ship’s public areas. The corridors and lobbies have been given a much brighter look. The piano bar has also been completely renovated. After the tour, it was time to continue shopping in the renovated stores.
Aamiaisen jälkeen oli aikaa kierrellä laivan yleisiä tiloja läpi Käytävät ja aulat on saanut paljon valoisamman ilmeen. Piano baari on myös täysin uudistunut. Kierroksen jälkeen oli aika jatkaa shoppailua uudistetuissa myymälöissä.
Then it was time for a stop in Mariehamn. The rest of the trip was spent in a nightclub playing quizzes and bingo. All in all, a nice mini-cruise.
Sitten oli vuorossa pysähdys Maarianhaminassa. Loppu matka menikin yökerhossa visailun ja bingon parissa. Kaiken kaikkiaan mukava miniristeily.
