A year ago, we booked the next trip on the MSC World Europa cruise for the MSC Splendida from Trieste to Greece and Turkey. The ship was new to me, although I have cruised on two sister ships. The duration of the cruise was 10 days. This time I was able to travel for the first time on the Diamond level of the MSC Voyager Club. The trip started with a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Venice. The plane was an Embraer 190.
Varasimme vuosi sitten MSC World Europan risteilyllä seuraavan matkan MSC Splendidalle Triestestä Kreikkaan ja Turkkiin. Laiva oli minulle uusi, tosin kahdella sisaraluksella olen risteillyt. Risteilyn kesto oli 10 päivää. Tällä kertaa pääsin ensimmäisen kerran matkaan MSC Voyager Clubin Timantti-tasolla. Matka alkoi Finnairin Lennolla Helsingistä Venetsiaan. Koneena oli Embraer 190.
After the flight, the journey continued by Flixbus to Trieste, a two-hour journey. The bus was naturally late, but the schedule was loose enough. The beginning of the trip was fairly flat terrain, but closer to Trieste the scenery became really nice. The city of Trieste will be a destination again.
Lennon jälkeen matka jatkui Flixbussilla Triesteen, kahden tunnin matka. Bussi oli luonnollisesti myöhässä, mutta aikataulu oli riittävän väljä. Alkumatka oli melko tasaista maastoa, mutta lähempänä Triesteä maisemat muuttui todella hienoiksi. Triesten kaupunki tulee olemaan uudestaan käyntikohteena.
After walking about a kilometer from the bus station, we arrived at the harbor. Note the protection of the ISPS area. Check-in was fast, well under 30 minutes to the ship. Now the computer systems were finally brought to a level where no other papers were needed except for the passport. The ship had the key cards waiting at the cabin door and then we got to see the cabin. The cabin was a balcony cabin by the rear main staircase. The cabin was well equipped and about 20 m2 in size. Next was lunch at the buffet.
Bussiasemalta noin kilometrin kävelyn jälkeen saavuimme satamaan. Huomatkaa ISPS-alueen suojaus. Check-in oli nopea, reilusti alle 30 minuuttia laivaan. Nyt oli myös viimeinkin tietokonejärjestelmät saatu sille tasolle ettei passia lukuun ottamatta muita papereita tarvinnut. Laivalla oli avainkortit odottamassa hytin ovessa ja sitten pääsimmekin tutustumaan hyttiin. Hyttinä oli parvekehytti taaimmaisen pääportaikon kohdalta. Hytti oli hyvin varusteltu ja noin 20 m2 kooltaan. Seuraavaksi oli vuorossa lounas Buffetissa.
From the center of Kiel we are looking for the right local bus to the port with about twenty others on board the ship. Then it was time to get on the ship. At check-in, Covid test certificates, Covid vaccination certificates and insurance were checked. About an hour later we were already on board.
Laivan lähtö oli 19:00.Ilta meni pelastusharjoituksessa ja tutustuessa laivaan. Illallinen tuli nautittua pääravintolassa. Ruoka oli hyvää, joskin laivan ollessa loppuunmyyty ajoittain joutui odottelemaan ruokaa.
Next was a sea day between Trieste and Katakolo. MSC Splendida is an MSC Fantasia class ship ordered by MSC Cruises from STX France. The original name was MSC Serenata, but the name changed during construction. The ship is 333.33 meters long, 139,000 GT, 3959 passengers, 1370 crew and 18 floors. MSC Splendida has operated mostly in the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa. The ship has two outdoor and one indoor pool areas. In the bow of the Pool Deck is the MSC Aurea Spa. The center ship has a children’s water park and a play area. At the stern of the ship is the Sport Court. There are sun decks on many floors.
Seuraavaksi oli vuorossa meripäivä Triesten ja Katakolon välillä. MSC Splendida on MSC Cruisesin STX Francelta tilaama MSC:n Fantasia-luokkan alus. Alkuperäinen nimi oli MSC Serenata, mutta nimi vaihtui rakennus aikana. Alus on 333,33 metriä pitkä, 139 000 GT , 3959 matkustajaa, 1370 miehistöä ja 18 kerrosta. MSC Splendida on operoinut enimmäkseen Välimerellä, Aasiassa ja Afrikassa. Laivalla on kaksi ulko- ja yksi sisäallas aluetta. Pool deckin keulassa on MSC Aurea Spa. There is a good selection of restaurants on MSC Splendida, the main restaurant La Reggia for more than 1100 diners, behind it Villa Verde Panoramic Restaurant. Buffet restaurants Bora Bora and Pago Pago on deck 14 for over 800 diners. L Olivo, MSC Yacht Club Dedicated Restaurant on deck 14, Sea Pavilion by Jereme Leung, Hot Pot Restaurant on deck 16. Butcher’s Cut, American Steakhouse Restaurant on the 7th deck.
Ravintoloita MSC Splendidalta löytyy hyvä valikoima, pääravintola La Reggia yli 1100 ruokailijalle, sen takana Villa Verde Panoramic Restaurant. On the third day, the first destination was Katákolo in Greece, which is located on the west coast of the Peloponnese peninsula, on the north shore of the Kyparissian Gulf. It belongs administratively to the municipality of Pýrgos, the regional unit of Elis and the region of Western Greece. The population of the village is 509. A really wonderful little idyllic village. Right from the morning we were able to enjoy a wonderful sunrise and the day became really warm.
Kolmantena päivänä oli vuorossa ensimmäinen käyntikohde Katákolo Kreikassa, joka sijaitsee Peloponnesoksen niemimaan länsirannikolla Kyparissíanlahden pohjoisrannalla. Se kuuluu hallinnollisesti Pýrgoksen kuntaan, Eliksen alueyksikköön ja Länsi-Kreikan alueeseen. Kylän väkiluku on 509. Todella upea pieni idyllinen kylä. On the fourth day, it was Piraeus’ turn. The port of Piraeus is the most important port in Greece, the fifth largest passenger port in Europe and the 24th largest passenger port in the world. It serves approximately 4.37 million passengers annually in 2020. Its throughput is 5.44 million TEU. Measured by container traffic, Piraeus is among the ten busiest ports in Europe and the busiest container port in the Eastern Mediterranean. The day’s program included a lot of filming of ships and a visit to the island of Salamina. The really warm weather continued and drinks were consumed while walking around the city. There was a lot left to see for the next time.
Neljäntenä päivänä oli vuorossa Piraeus. Piraeuksen satama on Kreikan tärkein satama, Euroopan viidenneksi suurin matkustajasatama ja maailman 24. suurin matkustajasatama. Se palvelee vuosittain noin 4,37 miljoonaa matkustajaa vuonna 2020. Sen läpikulku on 5,44 miljoonaa TEU:ta. Piraeus on konttiliikenteellä mitattuna Euroopan kymmenen vilkkaimman sataman joukossa ja itäisen Välimeren vilkkain konttisatama. Päivän ohjelmistossa oli paljon laivojen kuvaamista ja käynti Salaminan saarella. Todella lämmin sää jatkui ja juomaa kului kävellessä kaupungilla. Jäi paljon nähtävää seuraavallekin kerralle.

Laivalla ei ole unohdettu nuoria ja lapsia. Eri ikäisille löytyy omat leikkipaikat, ajanviete pelejä kaiken ikäisille, 4D teatteri, F1 simulaattori…
On the fifth day, it was Kuşadasi, Turkey. The oldest remains of the settlement in Kuşadas date back to 3000 years BC.In ancient times, the city of Pygela was located on the site.The Persians conquered it in 646 BCE, and from around 200 BCE. it was part first of Rome, then of Byzantium. Kuşadası fortress and old town are from the Ottoman Empire. The Greeks occupied the city at the end of the First World War, and since 1922 it has been part of independent Turkey. A wonderful beach destination. There were five cruise ships in the port, so the city had enough tourists.
Viidentenä päivänä oli vuorossa Kuşadasi, Turkissa. Kuşadasin vanhimmat jäänteet asutuksesta ovat ajalta 3000 vuotta eaa. Antiikin aikana paikalla sijaitsi Pygelan kaupunki. Persialaiset valtasivat sen 646 eaa., ja noin vuodesta 200 eaa. se oli osa ensin Roomaa, sittemmin Bysanttia. Kuşadasin linnoitus ja vanhakaupunki ovat ottomaanien valtakaudelta. Kreikkalaiset valtasivat kaupungin ensimmäisen maailmansodan päätteeksi, ja vuodesta 1922 se on ollut osa itsenäistä Turkkia. Upea rantakohde. There is a good selection of lounges, theaters, bars and cafes. The Strand Theater 1600 seats, The Aft Lounge, The Purple Jazz Bar, Dim Sum Bar & Tea House, Láperitivo Bar, Léspresso, the wonderful La Prua Piano bar, Splendida Bar in the Atrium, La Piazzetta a good place for afternoon tea and the Sport Fun bar. When booking the trip, we booked the Easy drink package and upgraded it to the Easy plus package before the trip began.

Matkaa varatessamme varasimme Easy-drinkkipaketin ja päivitimme sen Easy plus- paketiksi ennen matkan alkua.
Day 6. Istanbul, Turkey. Turkey’s largest city by population (over 15.3 million inhabitants), and the country’s center of culture, communication, entertainment and economy. It is located in the northwestern part of the country in the seabed of the Sea of Marmara on both sides of the Bosphorus, in the north the city extends to the Black Sea. The city extends to both Europe and Asia. Istanbul was the capital of the Ottoman Empire (1290–1923) from 1453. Istanbul was one of the most interesting destinations in advance. And not least because there is a lot of traffic on the waterway. The cruise terminal is new and very functional. We chose the hop on-hop off bus to explore the city. There was a lot to see and even more was left unseen.
Päivä 6. Istanbul, Turkki. Turkin väestöltään suurin kaupunki (yli 15,3 milj. asukasta), ja maan kulttuurin, viestinnän, viihteen ja talouden keskus. Se sijaitsee maan luoteisosassa Marmaranmeren pohjukassa Bosporinsalmen molemmin puolin, pohjoisessa kaupunki ulottuu Mustalle merelle. Kaupunki ulottuu sekä Euroopan että Aasian puolelle. Istanbul oli Osmanien valtakunnan (1290–1923) pääkaupunki vuodesta 1453 alkaen. Istanbul oli ennakkoon yksi kiinnostavimmista kohteista. Eikä vähiten sen takia, että siellä on liikennettä vesistöllä todella paljon. Risteilyterminaali on uusi ja hyvin toimiva. Valitsimme hop on-hop off bussin kaupunkiin tutustumiseen. Nähtävää riitti paljon ja vielä enemmän jäi näkemättä.
Day 7, the second sea day of the trip. Time to do your Christmas shopping on board, enjoy the ship’s entertainment and services. The ship has ten shops, Cosmetic Shop, Duty Free Shop, Fashion Accessories Shop, Fashion Watches & Jewelery Shop, La Galleria, La Piazzetta, MSC Fashion Shop, MSC Kids Shop, Photo Shop and Pool Shop.
7. päivä, matkan toinen meripäivä. Aika tehdä tuliaisostokset laivalla, nauttia laivan viihteestä ja palveluista. Laivalla on kymmenen kauppaa, Cosmetic Shop, Duty Free Shop, Fashion Accessories Shop, Fashion Watches & Jewelery Shop, La Galleria, La Piazzetta, MSC Fashion Shop, MSC Kids Shop, Photo Shop and Pool Shop.

Day 8. Corfu (Kerkyra), Greece. Corfu is located in the northern part of the Ionian Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea, off the west coast of Greece and the south coast of Albania. The island is the northernmost of the Ionian Islands. Its nearest larger islands are Paxós and Antípaxos in the south and Ereikoú, Mathráki and Othonóí in the northwest. Lefkas is located further south of Corfu. In Corfu we also took the hop on – hop off bus and got to know the sights. There were three other cruise ships and lots of local ferries to photograph. Corfu was also really warm. The weather forecast promised temperatures of +35C, but it was definitely closer to +35 degrees.
Päivä 8. Corfu (Kerkyra) , Kreikka. Korfu sijaitsee Välimereen kuuluvan Joonianmeren pohjoisosassa Kreikan länsirannikon ja Albanian etelärannikon edustalla. Saari on pohjoisin Jooniansaarista. Sen lähimmät suuremmat saaret ovat Paxós ja Antípaxos etelässä sekä Ereikoússa, Mathráki ja Othonoí luoteessa. Lefkas sijaitsee kauempana Korfusta etelään.Corfulla otimme myös hop on – hop offbussin ja tutustuimme nähtävyyksiin. Paikalla olikolme muuta risteilyalusta ja paljon paikallisia lauttoja kuvattavaksi. Corfullakin oli todella lämmintä. Sääennuste lupasi +35C lämpötiloja, mutta varmasti oli lähempänä +35 astetta.
The destination of the penultimate day is Bari, Italy. Bari is a city in southern Italy on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, known in ancient times as Barium. Bari is the capital and main port of the Apulia region and the metropolitan city of Bari. Bari has a population of around 326,000 and is the ninth largest city in Italy. A nice beach town and the weather continued to be sunny. The previous night there was some wind (9 bofors). Bari has many ferry connections across the Adriatic Sea.
Toiseksi viimeisen päivän kohde on Bari, Italiassa. Bari on Etelä-Italiassa Adrianmeren rannalla sijaitseva kaupunki, joka tunnettiin antiikin aikaan nimellä Barium. Bari on Apulian alueen ja Barin metropolikaupungin pääkaupunki ja tärkein satamakaupunki. Barissa asuu noin 326 000 asukasta, ja se on Italian yhdeksänneksi suurin kaupunki. Kiva rantakaupunki ja sää jatkui edelleen aurinkoisena. Edellisenä yönä oli jonkin verran tuulta ( 9 bofooria ). Barista on monta lauttayhteyttä Adrianmeren yli.
10th and last day of the trip, return back to Trieste. During the night, the weather had turned into a storm and MSC Splendida needed the help of three tugs to anchor to the port. This time the walk to the bus station seemed surprisingly long. The trip continued to Venice airport with Flixbus. The bus was naturally an hour late, but enough time was reserved. After the bus trip, return to the airport, where we hear that the flight is 1.5 hours late. We ate really good pizza at the airport restaurant. Finnair’s Airbus A319 was on the way for the last leg of the trip. We arrived in Helsinki well after midnight.
10. ja viimeinen päivä matkasta paluu takaisin Triesteen. Yön aikana oli sää muuttunut myrskyksi ja MSC Splendida tarvitsi kolmen hinaajan apua satamaan kiinnittymiseen. Tällä kertaa kävelymatka bussiasemalle tuntui yllättävän pitkälle. Flixbussilla matka jatkui Venetsian lentokentälle. Bussi oli luonnollisesti tunnin myöhässä, mutta aikaa oli riittävästi varattuna. Bussimatkan jälkeen paluu lentokentälle , jossa siamme kuulla lennon olevan 1,5 tuntia myöhässä. Söimme todella hyvää pizzaa lentokentän ravintolassa. Matkan viimeiselle osuudelle oli vuorossa Finnairin Airbus A319. Helsinkiin saavuimme reilusti puolen yön jälkeen.
