21/10/1962M/S Sanct Svithun is to take the normal route to Rørvik. Buholmråsa Fyr lighthouse, the southern entrance to the open sea stretch of the Folda. Further along the east side of the lighthouses Gjeslingan Fyr and Grinna Fyr, then into Nærøysund and to Rørvik. The ship never arrives in Rørvik.
As it turns out later, the ship is heading northwest at the Buholmråsa Fyr lighthouse, towards Gjeslingene. The course is changed too late and the ship calls into the archipelago / reefs at Nordøyan, too far west of the normal position. The M / S Sanct Svithun runs aground. The ship glides over the cliff, then anchors and sends alarm and emergency signals via radio and emergency missiles. The ship begins to sink. It fills up within a quarter of an hour and disappears from the surface of the sea. Half an hour after the ship should be in Rørvik, the distress signals arrive in Rørvik. The M/S Sanct Svithun has a position that no rescuer suspects. The rescue teams first look at the point where the ship is actually supposed to be, in the area of ​​the normal course of the Hurtigrute. The survivors with the lifeboats are not found until late at night. 48 people survived the accident, 42 dead.
